How to obtain a System Information file (NFO) for diagnostics and troubleshooting

System Information files (NFO) contain information about the hardware and software environment of a computer. This file is often requested by support professionals as a way to diagnose and troubleshoot problems with a software application.

The instructions below will walk you through the steps needed to obtain a System Information file (NFO).
  1. On the keyboard, hold down the WINDOWS key and then hit R.
  2. In the Run dialog box, type MSINFO32 and then click OK.
  3. In the System Information dialog box, click the File menu and then Save.
  4. In the Save As dialog box, set the desired folder to save to, enter a name for the file, and then click Save.
Email the NFO file to technical support.

Note: An alternative to using the WINDOWS+R keys and Run window is to type MSINFO32 into the Windows Start menu, or specifically into the search field in the Start menu (Windows 7), or at the Start screen (Windows 8/10).
